Euro 2024 power rankings: Spain, Germany on course for epic clash?

Are you ready for a Euro 2024 quarterfinal that looks and feels like a final? Germany is, or at least certainly looked ready towards the end of its Round of 16 victory against Denmark on Saturday.

The soccer universe is, too, because who doesn’t like Spain vs. Germany at any time, especially in a major tournament and with everything to play for?

As for Spain, though, there is some business to attend to first.

Before we all get too excited about what, admittedly, would be an absolute blockbuster of a last eight clash between historic rivals boasting young superstars — Lamine Yamal and Jamal Musiala showing their respective skills, anybody? — let’s remember that Spain has to win its next game first.

Luis de la Fuente’s side takes on Georgia on Sunday (3 p.m. ET on FOX) in what is either the tournament’s biggest mismatch or an opportunity for the upset or all upsets, depending on how much of a romantic you are.

Either way, Spain-Georgia now becomes appointment viewing. To see if a miracle can happen. And, perhaps more likely, to see how Spain shapes up for the mega challenge ahead.

No surprise given how much salivating has just taken place in the words above, Spain and Germany remain as the top two in the latest edition of the FOX Sports Euro 2024 power rankings. Let’s see if they can back it up.
